Seeking the Czech Republic’s Place in the World on the Pages of the Journal Mezinárodní Vztahy

Abstract

The aim of the article is to provide an analysis and a deeper understanding
of the ways the Czech(oslovak) research community approached the issues
related to the Czech/Czechoslovak foreign policy. The main departure point
of the text is a formal analysis of the articles related to the
Czech/Czechoslovak foreign policy published in the journal Mezinárodní
vztahy. We analyze the institutional, methodological, theoretical and
disciplinary backgrounds of the individual authors of the articles and also
their particular interpretation of the fundamental questions of the
Czech/Czechoslovak foreign policy.

Author Biography

Tomáš Weiss

Tomáš Weiss, born in 1980, he is the Head of the Department of West European Studies at the Institute of International Studies of the Faculty of Social Sciences,
Charles University. He specializes in foreign and security policy of the
European Union and its Member States, as well as transatlantic relations
and the Czech Republic’s foreign policy in the EU. In the past he worked as a
researcher at the Institute of International Relations and the Institute for
European Policy EUROPEUM, among other positions.

Michal Kořan

Michal Kořan, born in 1977, he lectures on the subjects of International Relations and
Czech Foreign Policy at the Faculty of Social Studies at Masaryk University in
Brno, where, in 2008, he obtained a doctorate in International Relations,
and he also works as a researcher at the Institute of International Relations.
His academic endeavour is devoted to Central Europe, theories of
international relations and issues of global order.

Vít Beneš

Vít Beneš, born in 1980, he is a researcher at the Institute of International Relations
and the editor in chief of the magazine International Relations (Mezinárodní
vztahy). He defended his PhD thesis at the Faculty of International Relations,
University of Economics. He is the author of numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals (such as the Journal of Common Market Studies and
Cooperation and Conflict, among others) and chapters in monographs on
the topics of research methodology, theory of international relations, EU
enlargement and the European dimension of Czech foreign policy.
