Changes to Licence and Formatting in CJIR
30.04.2025
The Czech Journal of International Relations is pleased to announce two important editorial updates that will come into effect with the journal’s next volume in 2026: the adoption of the APA citation style (7th edition) and the implementation of the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license for all published articles. These changes reflect our commitment to aligning with international academic standards, improving the author experience, and ensuring broader accessibility and compliance with current Open Access requirements.
The transition to APA formatting will provide greater consistency, clarity, and ease of use for both authors and readers. As one of the most widely used citation styles in the social sciences, APA facilitates transparency and source traceability, while also being supported by numerous reference management tools. For contributors, this change reduces the burden of reformatting and simplifies the preparation of manuscripts, especially for those already accustomed to this standard from other journals and institutions.
Our shift to the CC BY license represents a strategic move toward greater openness. This license allows unrestricted distribution and reuse of published research, provided proper attribution is given. It fully complies with Open Access mandates, including those of the Horizon Europe programme, making the journal an even more attractive platform for grant-funded research outputs.
While these changes will formally apply starting with Volume 61 (2026), they are mandatory for all new submissions with immediate effect, as all 2025 issues are already finalized. Authors submitting in 2025 should therefore adhere to the new guidelines to ensure seamless integration into the 2026 publication cycle.
